Hand in your work from last week including the review questions for The Color of Water and the questions from the literature book.
Chapter 13:
1. Explain why Ruth loves New York.
2. While in New York, Ruth almost seems like "Cinderella" to her relatives. Explain the connection to the old fairy tale with as many examples as you can provide.
3. While her aunt took care of the pregnancy issue for which she was grateful, Ruth says Aunt Betts slammed the door in her face years later. What do you think happens years later and why do you think Ruth never felt any bitterness towards her?
Chapter 14:
1. Mark says in this chapter that he began his own process of running just like his mother did years ago. From what was he running and how is it similar to what his mother did?
2. What kind of trouble did Mark get into in this chapter? What did his mother do to deter it and why didn't it work? He said, "My stepfather's final admonition to me went unheeded..." What was he supposed to do? What effect did this have on his mother and his sibling?
3. Like Ruth, Mark went to live with relatives over the summer. Explain why and what he did.
4. Why did Mark like being at the Corner as far as his problems went? Chicken Man tells Mark that he..."ain't nobody!" What impact did that have on Mark? Why is this chapter named after this one guy?
Due Tuesday at the end of class.
Homework: Read Chapters 15-18 for Wednesday.
